Sandalwood trees chopped in Hyderabad zoo
Hyderabad: At least seven sandalwood trees were found to have been chopped down in the Nehru Zoological Park here. Sources claimed that the zoo staff, on noticing the chopped trees, lodged a formal complaint with Bahadurpura police under whose jurisdiction the zoo falls.
Sources from the TS forest department confirmed to Deccan Chronicle that the incident was noticed a couple of days ago and after much dilly dallying a decision was taken by the authorities to initiate action on the incident.
Accordingly, a formal written complaint was lodged with the police to register a case and for further action. However, police confirmed that they have so far not received any complaint from the zoo authorities. They can initiate a probe only after they get a complaint, they clarified.
It may be noted that a similar incident was reported a few months back, but there was not much development in tracing the suspects involved in chopping down the trees.
