Amicus curiae asked to inspect Chanchalguda women's jail

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday sought to know the facilities provided to prison inmates in the Chanchalguda women's jail, vis-à-vis basic standards.

A division bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwara Rao, directed amicus curiae Sundari. P, advocate, to inspect the jail before August 3 and furnish a report detailing the facilities provided to the inmates.

Earlier, on the directions of the court, the standing counsel of Telangana State Legal Services Authority, along with para legal volunteers, visited the jail and submitted a report. Now, the court said it wanted a report from the amicus curiae. The court will issue necessary directions to the state government after comparing the two reports.

The bench was dealing with a Suo motu writ petition based on the communication received, which described deplorable conditions in Chanchalguda jail’s women's wing.
