Aruna detained on way to Nirmal to join protest

Hyderabad: The police on Sunday detained BJP national vice president D.K. Aruna at the Indalwai Toll Plaza in Nizamabad district and brought her back to her residence in Jubilee Hills of Hyderabad, effectively preventing her from reaching Nirmal to support a BJP protest.

Former BJP MLA Aleti Maheswar Reddy was sitting on an indefinite strike in Nirmal to protest the newly-introduced master plan. Aruna was proceeding to Nirmal to extend her solidarity to Maheswar Reddy, but the police intercepted her vehicle at the toll plaza and informed her that she did not have permission to proceed to Nirmal.

When Aruna was being detained at the toll plaza, Nizamabad MP D. Arvind, who was also proceeding to Nizamabad, noticed the ruckus and joined Aruna in arguing with the police to allow her to travel to Nirmal.

Addressing the media later, Aruna said: “Maheswar Reddy was on indefinite strike for the past five days and his health condition was deteriorating day by day. I wanted to visit Nirmal to examine the health condition of Maheswar Reddy and extend my solidarity.”

Despite being detained, Aruna said she called the Nizamabad police and asked them to allow her to visit Nirmal. As she left the toll plaza and proceeded towards her destination, hundreds of police personnel descended on her vehicles at the Dudgam Junction.

“Police misbehaved and acted rudely while lifting me at Dudgam locality. I was alone in my car and there was no mob. Police said there was a heavy crowd at Nirmal and did not allow me to Nirmal. They kept me in a police vehicle and did not inform where they were taking me. Finally, the police shifted me to my residence in Jubilee Hills,” Aruna said.
