Camel meat exported illegally
Hyderabad: Investigation into camel slaughter revealed that the meat is exported illegally to other countries, including China and Arab nations, where it is in huge demand.
The meat, according to police officials, is stored in cold storages in and around Hyderabad. “The animal is slaughtered at remote areas in the district where there is no public movement and later transported to cold storages in the city. It is packed and then exported,” Ramesh Kumar, inspector of Chandur police station said.
Huge money is involved in the export trade and several people are getting attracted to it due to the high margins. The average cost of a camel is Rs 15,000, including the transportation charges, and the meat is sold for Rs 100 per kg.
Recently, the Nalgonda police arrested a camel slaughter gang comprising twenty-five members, including owners, butchers and workers. They transported 28 camels from Gujarat to Hyderabad for slaughtering. The police seized two lorries and sent five camels to the goshala in Ibrahimpatnam for rehabilitation.
