Kondapalli fort to be a major tourist destination
Vijayawada: Historic Kondapalli fort is getting a facelift. The government is developing it as part of tourism circuit in the city along with Bhavani Islands and Pavitra Sangamam.
Kondapalli fort, which is just 16 km from Vijaya-wada, is situated on the top of a hill at Ibrahi-mpatnam. The fort witnessed very little number of tourists due to lack of basic amenities like drinking water, refreshment stall and security.
The government had focused on developing the Kondapalli fort as a tourist attraction soon after the announcement of Amaravati as capital.
The state archeological department had taken restoration works and successfully completed the first phase. The department, which took up chemical conservation works a year ago has now completed restoring the broken walls and pillars with around Rs 8 crore.
The government prepared estimates of around Rs 35 crore for the development of the fort out of which only Rs 8 crore was released till now to restore fallen walls and old structures.
According to the officials of archeological department, the government decided to make Kondapalli fort a major attraction at Amaravati.
