Dakshina Kannada SP shunted out
Bengaluru: A little over six months into his posting as Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada, C.H. Sudheer Kumar Reddy was on Saturday shunted out of the highly-sensitive district because of his alleged sustained action against the sand mafia, sources told this newspaper.
Reddy has been transferred and posted as SP, Belagavi in place of B.R. Ravikante Gowda, who has been posted to DK.
Earlier this week, Deccan Chronicle had reported that Reddy had earned the ire of politically strong sand mafia, which was facing the brunt of police action against their multi-crore illegal sand transportation business.
The word had gone up to district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai, who reportedly wanted the officer posted out of the district. Reddy was posted to DK in June last year.
According to sources, in a span of five to six months the district police registered 150 cases and arrested around 80 people under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code and Mines & Minerals (Development & Regulation) Act.
"Reddy has been transferred to Belagavi, which is a bigger district, but he was just posted to DK and was doing a good job. No officer wants to get posted to the district because of political interference in administration and maintenance of law and order," said the officer.
