Ramagundam set to be 3rd largest power centre

Ramagundam power station has seven units, generating 2,600 mw of power.

Ramagundam (Karimnagar): National Thermal Power Corporation’s Ramag-undam Super Thermal Power Station (RSTPS) is set to create a record of sorts by becoming the third largest electricity producer in the country and the first one in South India. At present, it is gearing up for installing two 800 mw power units under TSTPP)-Phase I. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to lay the foundation stone for the new units in the first week of March.

Already, Ramagundam power station has seven units, generating 2,600 mw of power. With the addition of two more units, it will be able to generate 4,200 mw of power. Accordingly, it is going to be the third largest power producer in the country after the Mundra Thermal Power Project of Adani Group and Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Project promoted by the NTPC. The MTPP’s output is 4,260 MW, while 4,260 of electricity is produced at VSTPP.

Executive director of Ramagudam plant P.K. Mahapatra said that the corporation secured environmental clearances from Union ministry of environment and forests, coal linkage from block belonging to Mahanadi coal fields located in Odisha and 2.73 tmc of water from Yellampalli project for erecting the two units.

“Zero date of the new units was already begun on January 29. Installation of the units will be completed within time. Ramagundam-NTPC will become one of the major power stations of India with the arrival of the units. Super critical technology will be used in order to install the units for reducing adverse impact on environment and for enhancing efficiency,” explained Mr Mahapatra.
