Putting each one, help one' credo into practice
Bengaluru: “Little drops of water make the mighty ocean”. That’s what AssistHELP is trying to achieve by uniting like-minded human beings to develop an organisation to serve humanity. D.T. Arasu, Director, Events and Projects from AssistHELP, explains, “AssistHELP is an organisation whose prime objective is to serve needy fellow human beings. We work with a simple and focused formula — ‘each one to help one’. We have identified four broad areas where assistance is needed. These areas are Health, Environment, Literacy and Poverty. That’s why the name AssistHELP. All problems associated with human beings are either directly or indirectly related to any of these four sectors. Which is why our focus is to bring about change in these areas with efforts to ‘give back’ to society.”
This organisation was formed by Dr. Manish Harsh MD, General Medicine, around three years ago. The success of the organisation lies in the fact that it functions as a platform for a huge number of working professionals to fulfill their philanthropic desires. AssistHELP as a mother NGO is currently supporting various grass roots NGOs through its CSR projects. As an organisation it is working with various corporates, colleges and government bodies in order to fulfill the needs of their CSR projects and their awareness campaigns.
One such awareness campaign is NIRBHAYA, which is taking place on April 30, 2016, where more than 50 corporates, 70 colleges, 100 NGOs and various groups around the country will be participating, The expected crowd for the event is around 10,000. The event is part of an awareness campaign towards Women’s Empowerment with the focus on Health, Education and Safety of women in society. Around 40 women’s welfare NGOs are going to be benefited through this fund-raising event.
With the prime focus on uniting people, Assist HELP is creating a global platform where all those who wish to help fellow human beings can do so. Dr T Arasu said, “Our message to everyone is, we invite you to come and join this community of ‘givers’ and enlighten your life with the satisfying power of service. Each One Helps One.”
AssistHELP is currently working with 15 states of India and supporting more than 200 projects through its corporate partnership, Government bodies and individual supporters. So, how does it work? Level 1 network represents organizations who work at the grassroots and qualify for assistance from Assist HELP Foundation. All Level 1 organizations are promoted by Assist HELP through its campaign events and programmes. Level 2 network represents those grass root organizations which qualifies for Assist HELP’s grant system. All projects where grants are approved by AHF is monitored and managed by Assist HELP specific protocols and processes.
Their main mission is to prevent epidemics and provide basic healthcare to all by creating awareness, developing health centres and all other applicable methods. And for that they have been conducting medical camps, blood donation camps among other things. Secondly, they aim to move humanity to live in ways that protect and improve natural resources and to enhance earth’s capacity to deliver human needs. For that they have tree plantation programmes, awareness and cleaning programmes etc.
In order to raise the level of functional literacy of the people by providing appropriate opportunities in order to develop intellectual, responsible and productive human force, the organisation has been educating physically challenged students and providing basic computer knowledge for adults. They want to facilitate every human being to earn their basic needs like food, shelter and clothes and to work towards overcoming poverty and address the structural causes of poverty through education, awareness and other methods. They have also initiated a ‘feed the poor campaign.’
Volunteers perform various administrative jobs to support and facilitate /organise any major event. They also counsel the patients on projects related to healthcare, thus spreading healthcare awareness.
Their challenge is motivating minds towards environmental causes for projects like “Go Green”/Plantation. Interacting with underprivileged kids and their parents on the benefit of education, to make them send the young ones to schools, thus putting in an effort to eradicate illiteracy from society, at least to an extent. AssistHELP organises camps to provide food, drinking water, clothing, basic day-to- day amenities.
Upcoming event
More than 50 corporates, 70 colleges, 100 NGOs and various runner groups around the country are expected to participate in Nirbhaya Midnight Marathon on April 30 and the expected crowd is around 10,000. The event is part of the Women’s Empowerment awareness campaign with the focus on Health Education and Safety of women in society.
