Fodder camps for cattle

The state government will soon erect cattle fodder camps to feed distressed cattle.

Karimnagar: The state government will soon erect cattle fodder camps to feed distressed cattle in view of the prevailing drought conditions across the state on the lines of Maharashtra. The camps will initially be set up Mahbubnagar and Medak districts.Then, four would be started in Husnabad, Bheemadeverapalli, Bejjenki and Sircilla mandals of Karimnagar district. About 5,000 cattle can be fed in each camp.

The livestock is facing a pathetic situation from the past few months, thanks to drought situations and dried up water bodies such as tanks, streams and rivulets. As many 19 mandals were already declared as drought-hit ones following deficit rainfall registered in 2015. In order to handle famine, Maharashtra government is operating fodder camps in Bheed, Latur and Osmanabad districts.

“During a teleconference held by agriculture minister P. Srinivasa Reddy on April 19, he told us to take slew of measures to tackle the crisis. So, cattle fodder camps will be erected across the state. The camps will be come up in Mahbubnagar and Medak districts in the first phase. Karimnagar will have four camps in the second phase,” stated joint director of animal husbandry department Dr S. Ramachandram. Similarly, 1,400 water tubs would be constructed through MGNREGA. Nearly 10,000 litres can be stored in a tub. The district already has 1,200 tubs in rural parts. In
