Registering for home scheme not so easy

In the second phase, those with tokens have to visit another campsite located at a private school in Kolathur, for further registration.

Chennai: Homeless people, who arrived to register under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), a scheme that gives subsidized homes for the economically weaker sections (EWS) and lower income groups (LIGs), were forced to run from pillar to post.

The first phase was completed after applicants stood in scorching sun for hours and submitted government proofs like Aadhaar card, ration card, voter ID and bank passbook photocopies. The applicants were given tokens. In the second phase, those with tokens have to visit another campsite located at a private school in Kolathur, for further registration.

“I don’t have an own house. I came here to submit my Aadhaar, ration card, voter ID and bank passbook photocopies for registration. It is crowded and have to wait for more than two hours just to get the token,” said Immanuvel E, private taxi driver told DC.

Another applicant, M. Monisha, a housewife said, “ I submitted the necessary documents and now, I was directed to visit a special camp at a private school next week for further process.” The special camp organized as part of the National E-Governance Plan Scheme named Common Service Center Scheme was not willing to clarify and there were no proper feedback for the public.

When DC contacted a CSC camp organiser for the PMAY scheme, he said the second round of submission of documents will happen on Monday May 22 and refused to reveal further details about the poorly organised camp aimed to provide home for poor.
