Hyderbad: Nims doctor manhandled over ‘denial of service’
Hyderbad: A duty doctor at Nims hospital in Panjagutta was assaulted by a patient’s relatives alleging laxity by him.
The victim had been rushed to the hospital during the wee hours on Monday with a head injury from a road accident and the emergency team attended on the patient and shifted him to the ultrasound room for a CT scan. The patient’s relatives found the room was locked angering them and therefore they started abusing the doctor.
According to the police complaint filed by Dr Anees Fatima, “A patient named C. Nikhil was rushed to the emergency in Nims hospital, Panjagutta at around 4 am on Monday. The patient was examined by the casualty medical officer (CMO), Dr Anvesh, and the emergency team on duty. The patient was advised emergency protocol and given necessary treatment. Later he was referred for CT scan and ultrasound.”
“The patient’s relatives found that the ultrasound room was locked. They rushed downstairs to the CMO, following which he made a call to the radiology resident on duty around 5.10 am.” Meanwhile the angry relatives rushed the patient back to the entrance. They started manhandling the CMO, abused him, and also used abusive language on the duty hospital staff, hampered the duties of hospital emergency staff and also disturbed the other patients in the hospital, Dr Anees Fatima said in the complaint.
“I hereby request you to take necessary stringent action so that such incidents are not repeated in the future,” the complaint said.
Sub inspector D. Nagaraju of PS Panjagutta said, “Based on the complaint we have registered a case under sections 332 IPC (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty) along with 34 IPC (acts carried out by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) and further investigation is underway.
