Telangana: Dost admission hit by glitch
Hyderabad: Despite 1.4 lakh students were allotted seats in degree colleges in the first phase of counselling, only 54,000 students have reported to colleges.
Though the date for reporting at the colleges was June 18 onwards, nearly 90,000 students could not report to their colleges as they failed to get their admission deta-ils from the Dost website.
Degree college management associations bla-med it on the failure of the Dost website, which they claim has a lot of technical problems. They also sought an extension for the admission dates.
Dost officials claim that the server is down due to heavy traffic.
Online admission for undergraduate courses through Degree Online Services (DOST) portal was started to provide a student-friendly admission process. The degree college management ass-ociations, however, claim that the service has turned to be most unfriendly for the students.
They claimed that the online admission process is causing a great inconvenience to the students as well as the parents due to technical glitches.
According to the students, the online services have increased their efforts for the online admissions as they have to rush to e-seva and mee-seva centres for getting their token for the admission in long queues, whi-ch is not at all comfortable and also they are not receiving proper information due to technical issues in the website.
Mr Ramana Reddy, president, Degree College management associations said, “There are a lot of technical problems in the websites; students are not able to receive their One Time Passwords (OTPs) on their mobile phones. Most of the students at this age don’t have cellphones so they generally give the contact number of their parents so when the OTP comes, parents don’t know how to respond immediately. In the case of OTPs if we don’t respond immediately the request gets cancelled, so this is one major issue students are facing for the admissions.
Mr Venkat Chalam, Dost convener, said, “We are trying to resolve the issues as soon as possible and students seeking admissions in degree colleges don’t have to panic as we have extended the reporting date till June 24, 2017.”
