Calicut trio world Robofest champs
KOZHIKODE: A trio from Calicut triumphs at Robofest World Championship held by Lawrence Technological University, Michigan, the USA. Goutham Praveen, Aditya Robin and Rohan S. of Devagiri CMI Public School emerged victorious in the Bottle Sumo Smart Robotics junior category.
Their team secured medals and certificate of achievement as the autonomous robot they designed from scratches withstood the challenges of various international competitors.
The team beat around 300 students on a national pedestal at Bangalore to become the only team from Kerala to enter the competition in the US.
The objective presented to them at the international competition was to be the first autonomous robot to push a plastic bottle intentionally (using sensor fitted sides) off the table or to be the last robot standing in case the bottle was unintentionally toppled.
The robot they designed resembled a car and had technical complexities like ultrasonic sensors to detect other robots and track their movements.
It was also fitted with light sensors to assist its own motion. Eight other teams from all over India were present in the competition.
The trio was always passionate about assembling robots.
Their passion for robotics was encouraged by the school which started a special robotics workshop last year. Twenty five students have since attended this workshop.
