Kaleshwaram gates to be opened today
WARANGAL: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s dream project, touted as the world’s largest multi-stage lift irrigation project, the Kaleshwaram project is going to be commissioned on Friday.
The CM will dedicate the project to the farmers of the state at Kannepalli in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district in the presence of his Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh counterparts Mr Devendra Fadnavis and Mr Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy along with Telangana Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan.
The project which envisages irrigation of 45 lakh acres of land for two crops in a year besides meeting 70 per cent of the drinking water requirement of the state was made functional in record time after the Mr Rao laid the foundation stone of the project on May 2, 2016.
Health minister Etela Rajender who was overseeing the arrangements at Medigadda for the inaugural ceremony on Thursday said that Chief Minister Mr Rao would reach Medigadda from Hyderabad at 8:30 am. He would receive the guests from neighbouring states at 10:30 am. A homam would be conducted at the premises following which the gates of the Medigadda barrage would be lifted.
Later they would travel to Kannepalli and switch on the motors which would lift the water, thereby dedicating the project to the farmers of the state. The delegation of VIPs would then pay a visit the Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy temple.
Simultaneously, the other stages of the project would also be inaugurated on the same day.
Agriculture minister Niranjan Reddy will commission the barrage at Annaram, Home Minister Mahmood Ali will switch on the pump house. Similarly the Sundilla barrage and pump house would be launched by ministers Mallareddy and Koppula Eshwar.
Trial run successful: Meanwhile, the trial run of the Kannepalli pump house conducted on Thursday was declared successful by the engineers and irrigation officials. They checked for leakages during the trial run but did not find any.
