Prison to make way for varsity in Warangal
WARANGAL: The MGM Hospital would be developed into a world-class teaching hospital as part of the Kaloji Narayana Rao Health University, said health minister C. Laxma Reddy. He also checked out the possibility of building two towers for superspeciality sections as extensions to the MGM hospital.
The central prison in Warangal would be shifted to the outskirts at Mamnoor, allowing the health university to come up in its place. This would make available 70 acres, of which 35 acres would be allotted for the college building and the remaining would be used for the teaching hospital.
He was speaking during a review meeting held with university vice-chancellor Karunakar Reddy and medical and health department officials here on Wednesday. The minister also proposed to integrate the existing area hospitals, sub centres and PHCs to leverage the budget. They would be brought under one teaching hospital for better coordination. He said MGM hospital will be the model for the rest of the state in their attempt to restructure the health department.
