Bund breaches at Karuvannur
THRISSUR: Was it possible to prevent one among the biggest disaster in the deluge that struck Kerala if there were proper machinery and system in place to stop a bund road which started to collapse on Friday night and got completely washed away on Saturday afternoon?
The bund road connecting the Cheriyapalam to Mandarakkadavu in the Arattupuzha regions here is now collapsed, and 23 specialist workers from Ambalappuzha and Thakazhi in Alappuzha were rushed to Thrissur in a chopper to do the rescue work of diverting the course of Karuvannur River which has taken a split course - one its usual downstream flow to the Canoli Canal and then into the sea and the other one that created the biggest flood disaster in the district in which the river flooded with the waters from Chimmini and Peechi dams broke the bund road as started flowing through the residential areas and Kole Land lying south-west of Thrissur Town starting from Karuvannur, Arattupuzha,Ettumuna, Chirakka, Cherpu, Chenam, Nedupuzha and other places.
The impact of this bund breach was felt even at the Vanchikulam behind Thrissur Railway Station.
