#CookForKerala to raise fund for relief

MasterChef campaign to organise supper clubs, theme dinners.

Kollam: Taking a cue from #CookForSyria global fundraising campaign to protect children of the war-torn Arab nation, thousands of kitchens will now #CookForKerala raising funds for the flood victims.

The campaign has been rolled out by BBC’s MasterChef fame Suresh Pillai, calling for homemakers and chefs across the globe to raise funds by setting up supper clubs and organising theme dinners at homes and restaurants.

“Women at home can organise supper club by inviting their friends for food at their home and make them pay for it. The money earned as profit can be donated to save the flood victims,” Mr Pillai told this newspaper.

“Such ‘supper clubs’ are widespread in Europe and the US where they at first invite some 10 people, and the group gradually grows. It may even develop into restaurants.”

The #CookForKerala campaign initiated by Mr Suresh has been receiving applauses on social media.

Several chefs in India and abroad have already taken up the appeal to organise theme suppers under the hashtag.

“Several chefs from London, Germany, Sydney, Morocco, Portugal, and Mumbai have already planned for dinners and have announced the dates,” he added.

Mr Pillai, 40, of Phennikoppidel Veedu, Thekkumbhagom, in Kollam is working as the corporate chef with the Raviz Group.

He has worked in leading hotels in India and the UK and is a participant in the prestigious TV show MasterChef.

“Food is not like anything else. If people are connected by food, there will be an aroma of affection spread across,” he says.
