Kozhikode: The corporation kickstarted a mass chlorination process within city limits from Monday onwards. More than 50 health workers under the city corporation were deployed for the chlorination process, who personally visited every flood- hit area to detail the process and also implement them.
Detailing the process of chlorination, District Medical Officer Dr Jayasree said that for 1,000 litres of water five grams of bleaching powder is required. High quality bleaching powder is only recommended for this process. Quantity of water must be estimated first in the wells. According to it, take bleaching powder in a bucket and add water and make it in a paste form using a stick. Add 3/4th water to this consistency and mix well. Wait for 10 minutes for the powder to settle. After the powder settles down, transfer the water on top of it to another bucket which is used to fetch water from the well. Slowly dip and raise the bucket to the well water till the water is completely mixed. The water can be used after one hour.
The DMO also informed that chlorination process must be done for cleaning the house too. After clearing the scum and dirt from the houses, clean the house with chlorine solutions, without getting one’s body in contact with the contaminated water.
