The state government wants to implement 100% door-to-door garbage collection in all ULBs.

Hyderabad: Despite the state government attempting to ensure that Telangana leads in the Swachh Bharat campaign, several Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) are facing crucial problems. Most ULBs do not have land for dumping yards. Some lack Dry Waste Resource Centres (DWRCs), while others have failed to implement door-to-door collection of garbage.

According to officials, door-to-door garbage collection in ULBs stands at 84%.

The state government and municipal administration department have been giving top priority to Swachh Telangana. Several ULBs in Telangana have bagged Swachh awards also from the central government.

The state government wants to implement 100% door-to-door garbage collection in all ULBs.

In the recent Swachh Survekshan Survey, Hyderabad city was ranked India’s best capital city for solid waste management while Siddipet was rated as the cleanest town in the south. Boduppal on the city’s outskirts was selected as the best town in the south.

In Telangana, as many as 20 ULBs have not implemented dry waste management. The municipal administration department has established “Dry Waste Resource Centres (DWRCs) in about 54 ULBs.

The purpose of Dry Waste Resource Centres is to separate the dry waste materials like plastic, newspapers, glass and others from the garbage and sell it.

According to officials, all ULBs are generating about 3000 metric tonnes of garbage per day and lifting about 2700 metric tonnes.
