Cream of nations' top lawyers
Chennai: The creme de le creme of Indian lawyer fraternity were at the Madras high court on Wednesday to represent clients in the ‘famous’ case relating to the disqualification of 18 AIADMK legislators by Speaker P. Dhanapal and the Opposition call for floor test by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
Former Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal led the batter of lawyers representing the DMK working president M. K. Stalin seeking court directive for the floor test, his colleague in the Congress party Salman Khurshid, also a former Law Minister, took up the same plea on behalf of AIADMK rebel TTV Dhinakaran. Khurshid was assisted by another top notch lawyer Dushyant Dhave, who had appeared on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Government in various cases in Supreme Court.
Chief Minister Palaniswami had the services of former Attorney General Mukul Rohtagi, who had represented the BJP Government at the Centre in Supreme Court cases relating to the political crisis in Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Senior lawyer Aryama Sundaram, an expert in constitutional issues, represented Speaker Dhanapal, while another senior counsel Rakesh Dwivedi argued the case of Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao.
