Adoni government medical college hit by delays
KURNOOL: Adoni Government Medical College, for which the government has proposed a budget of ₹475 crore, is facing delays with regard to its construction over 58 acres of land at Arekal village on the national highway between Yemmiganur and Adoni.
This medical college is expected to serve the residents of Yemmiganur, Pathikonda, Mantralayam, Kosigi, Alur, Kowthalam and Adoni mandals.
It has been envisaged to provide treatment for road accident victims and for women to deliver their babies, reducing the need to refer the patients to the Kurnool hospital.
Adoni medical college complex will include a teaching hospital, medical college, nursing college, maternity block, doctors' quarters, guesthouses, student hostels, IPD / OPD blocks, a central drug store, a bio-medical waste treatment plant, medical gas pipelines, oxygen storage tanks, an oxygen generating plant, and an open-air theatre.
KV Projects, the agency that is overseeing construction, has currently completed only 10 per cent of the project, though under the supervision of APMSIDC. The estimated duration for project completion is 30 months, with work commencing in January this year. The state government envisages to complete the medical college by the next year.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had laid the foundation for the medical college virtually in May 2021, along with 13 other medical colleges across the state. However, land acquisition issues delayed the progress of the college until this year, when the construction began.
Presently, work on constructing the college building, girls' and boys' hostels, kitchen and dining facilities, in-patient and out-patient departments, among others, is going on.
APMSIDC executive engineer M. Sivarami Reddy said, "We have spent ₹35 crore on the project so far, with 10 per cent of the work completed. The hospital will have 100 seats with 450 beds. The contracting agency is currently handling the construction. The projected duration for completion is 30 months.”
