Chhattisgarh HC Stays Appointment of Candidates Selected by PSC Over Nepotism

Raipur: The Bhupesh Baghel government on Wednesday decided to probe the alleged bungling in the state civil service examinations in the wake of Chhattisgarh high court staying appointment of 18 candidates, selected by the public service commission (PSC) for various class two jobs, over nepotism charges.

The matter would be thoroughly probed and the appointment of the 18 candidates, whose cases were taken note of by the Chhattisgarh high court, would be held back till the next hearing of the case in the court, official sources said on Wednesday.

“The state government has given a statement before the court that the matter will be thoroughly investigated, and based on the investigation, response will be submitted to the Honourable court”, a press release issued by the Chhattisgarh government said.

The development comes in the wake of Chhattisgarh high court on Tuesday ordering to stay appointment of 18 candidates, who have cleared the state civil service examinations conducted earlier this year, in response to a petition filed by former minister and senior BJP leader Nankiram Kanwar demanding a CBI probe into the charges of nepotism in the recruitments in the class two jobs in the government by the PSC.

The petition alleged that at least 18 candidates, who have cleared the state civil service examinations, were near and dear ones of influential officials and ruling Congress leaders and alleged nepotism in the recruitment.

The court however observed that there was no bar in the appointment of other successful candidates in the state civil service examination.

The issue has snowballed into a major controversy with Opposition BJP alleging corruption in the appointments.

“It was seen that four members of a family have cleared the state civil service examination. It cannot be a coincidence. Besides, some close relations of Congress leaders have also figured in the merit list”, former chief minister and BJP national vice-president Raman Singh said.

As many as 171 candidates had cleared the state civil service examination, results of which were declared on May 11 this year.
