Congress Star Campaigners to Hit Campaign Trail in Chhattisgarh
Raipur: Star campaigners of Congress are set to hit the campaign trail for the party in Chhattisgarh in the current week ahead of the year-end assembly polls.
While AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi is scheduled to visit Bhilai in Chhattisgarh on Thursday to address a women conference organised by ruling Congress, party leader Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge have their programmes lined up in the state in the current week.
Ms Gandhi is coming on a day’s visit to Chhattisgarh to address the ‘Mahila Samridhi Sammelan’ (women’s prosperity conference) at Bhilai, around 35 km from Raipur, on Thursday, Congress spokesman Sushil Anand Tiwari said on Wednesday.
This was her second visit to Chhattisgarh in the last six months.
She had visited Bastar in Chhattisgarh on April 12 where she addressed a public meeting.
Sources said that she may declare sops for women at the party programme at Bhilai on Thursday.
Ex-AICC president Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh on September 25, where he is scheduled to address a public meeting.
Similarly, AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge is scheduled to visit Baloda Bazar in Chhattisgarh on September 28 to address a public meeting there.
“The party has been conducting ‘Sankalp Shivirs’ (oath taking camps) across the state to administer oaths to the party workers to ensure Congress retained power in the state in the forthcoming assembly elections”, a senior Congress functionary said.
The ‘Sankalp Shivir’ programme had played a key role in the return of the party to power in Chhattisgarh in the 2018 assembly elections after a gap of 15 years, he added.
