Madhya Pradesh: 10-year-old tracks down car that killed brother
Bhopal: At her age, Nandini Kahre will not be eligible even to portray the role of a cop on stage.
But, like a real-life Sherlock Holmes, the 10-year-old girl gathered clues out of nowhere leading her to track down the vehicle that killed her brother, Avinash Kahre (19), in a hit-and-run case, leaving the police red-faced. “My family was devastated by the tragic death of my brother in a road accident here on September 30. We wanted the police to take action against the culprits in the incident. But, the police indifference has shattered us.
“Police were clueless about the killer vehicle even a fortnight after the incident. Hence, I decided to visit the accident site to look for clues to locate the killer vehicle,” gritty Nandini recounted.
According to her, a thorough scrutiny of the accident site by her on October 13 led to recovery of a tiny piece of broken glass. A close examination of the glass piece helped her identify the brand of the car involved in the hit-and-run case.
She later visited all the showrooms selling the particular car brand in Bhopal and finally found the vehicle in one of the showrooms.
She immediately took pictures of the car and alerted the police about her finding.
Police later seized the car. Avinash Kahre, a class 12 student in a local higher secondary school, was hit by a car when he was returning home here on a bike on September 30.
His father, Krishna Kumar Kahre, is working as a lightman in the Bhopal Municipal Corporation.
The car sped away after mowing down the youth and had remained untraced till the girl tracked it down to a showroom in the city 13 days later.
