Manjeshwaram legislator PB Abdul Razak no more
Kasargod: Manjeshwaram MLA and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader P.B. Abdul Razak died here in the early hours of Saturday aged 63. He was admitted to a private hospital here due to fever three days back, and the death came after a lung infection.
Mr Razak was the second-time MLA from the constituency, located on the Karnataka border.
He wrested the seat from CPM in 2011 defeating sitting MLA C.H. Kunjambu by a margin of 5,828 votes.
In 2016, he faced a major challenge from BJP’s K. Surendran and managed to scrape through by a margin of just 89 votes.
Earlier he had a stint as Kasargod district panchayat member and later its president.
At the party level, he was a member of the national and state working committees.
He was the acting president of Kasargod joint Jaamath committee and president of Nellikatta and Neerchal Jamaat mosque committees.
He leaves wife Safiya and children, Shafeek, Saheera, Sahala and Shyma.
Scores of people paid their last respects when his body was kept at the IUML office in Uppala before the burial at the Alampady Juma Masjid.
