Mangaluru Airport Sees Record Surge in Passenger Traffic
Mangaluru: In a remarkable feat, Mangaluru International Airport witnessed a record surge in passenger traffic on November 19, handling 7,399 passengers across 26 arriving and 25 departing flights.
The substantial numbers comprised 3,527 arriving passengers and 3,872 departing passengers, marking the highest daily passenger count since the commercial operation date (COD) of October 31, 2020. This achievement also marks the first instance of the airport surpassing the 7,000-passenger mark in a single day since November 2021.
The load factor on arriving flights, both domestic and international, stood at an impressive 79 percent, while departing flights recorded an even higher load factor of 91 percent. Contributing to this surge were the resumption of flights on the Mangaluru-Pune sector and a noteworthy event at a prominent educational institution in the neighboring district.
According to a statement from the airport the last time Mangaluru International Airport handled over 7,000 passengers in a day was on November 27, 2021, with 7,084 passengers utilizing the airport.
On November 6, 2021, and November 20, 2021, the airport had accommodated 7,168 and 7,304 passengers, respectively.
The increase in air traffic movements since October 29 when the winter schedule came into effect has also contributed to the above buoyant numbers. Business and leisure travel picking up in the festive season across India has also gone on to contribute to the gradually increasing footfalls at Mangaluru International Airport.
