The Supreme Court has struck down the practice of instant triple talaq as unconstitutional, the Centre has passed an ordnance on the matter and a Bill has been introduced in the Lok Sabha. The woman asked the police to take action against her husband, who runs a school. The victim staged a protest near the school at Tolichowki, demanding justice.
According to the an officer at the Women Police Station of the Central Crime Station, the woman, Sameera Banu (name changed) of Yousufguda. had married one Mohd. Muzammil Sharif of Tolichowki about two years ago. The couple has a daughter.
Due to alleged harassment by her husband, Sameera moved to her maternal house and lodged a complaint against him at the women police station on November 23, alleging harassment and criminal breach of trust, as he was also reportedly planning to marry again.
While the case was under investigation, about a week ago, Sharif reportedly called Sameera on WhatsApp and said talaq thrice over the call. The woman infor-med the police about the same, and an inquiry has been initiated.
