DC Impact: Residents protests prompt closure of wine shop permit room
Hyderabad: A relentless pursuit by residents, including children, in Indian Airlines Colony of Trimulgherry, aided by Deccan Chronicle’s comprehensive coverage of the public issue led to the closure of the newly opened permit room of a wine shop.
The protesters, expressing concerns over safety hazards and the inconvenience caused by the liquor shop’s location, were happy to have achieved their goal.
The permit room, operated by Ambica Wines, obtained a licence during the latest liquor tender, effective December 1, 2023. However, its placement across the entrance of the colony sparked discontent among over 400 families residing in Indian Airlines Colony, Padmanabha Colony, Surya Enclave, and Malani Colony.
The narrow approach to the colonies became a chaotic zone, with daily occurrences of unruly scenes, arguments and fights due to haphazardly parked vehicles impeding free access. The decision to set up the permit room away from the main shop further intensified challenges, raising fears among residents about potential incidents or accidents.
Residents, feeling a growing sense of insecurity, had also raised a complaint with the police.
