Bandh call halts normal life in Odisha

Apart from price, pension and prestige, NNKS has been demanding security allowance of Rs 5,000 per month for farmers in the state.

Bhubaneswar: The 12-hour Odisha bandh call given by farmers’ body Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan on Thursday brought normal life to a grinding halt in the state.

Vehicular traffic was completely disrupted across the state and official establishments witnessed thin attendance.

Apart from price, pension and prestige, NNKS has been demanding security allowance of Rs 5,000 per month for farmers in the state.

According to reports, thousands of farmers under the aegis of NNKS observed the state-wide shutdown in Odisha.

In Bhubaneswar, members of the NNKS staged protests near Patia-Nandankanan road and blocked roads by burning tyres. Similar protests were also witnessed near Master Canteen and other parts of the city.

City police commissioner Satyajit Mohanty said the shutdown had not affected life in any way in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
