Hyderabad: Work at Macca Masjid may stop
Hyderabad: A Mumbai-based contractor has threatened to halt work at the Macca Masjid from Friday due to a delay in payments.
The government had sanctioned Rs 8.48 crore for the restoration and conservation of Macca Masjid and the royal mausoleum in 2015.
The first phase of the work was to be carried out on the terrace and parapet wall of the mosque. A complete chemical wash and grouting and painting of the stone jali over the parapet wall, stone walls, arches, minarets and staircase was in the works.
Mumbai-based contractor, Laxmi Hericon Pvt Ltd was expected to repair and re-paint the 196 wooden windows.
The contractor was also supposed to repair the 16 domes and walls inside the prayer hall and whitewash and carry out maintenance of the flooring and fixing of the shabad stone floor.
The director, archaeology, entrusted the work to Laxmi Hericon in 2017 and the site was handed over on September 4, that year. The duration of the work was fixed at 18 months but delyed payments have affected the work schedule.
