Arrested TD leaders shifted to Rajahmundry Central jail
Vijayawada: The police shifted the arrested Telugu Desam spokesperson Kommalapati Pattabhiram to Rajahmundry central jail after medical tests at the Government Hospital here on Wednesday.
Pattabhiram had alleged third degree treatment by the police while in custody but the medical examination did not prove any physical harm on him. Hence, the court first ordered his shift to the sub-jail at Gannavaram. The police then sought shifting of Pattabhiram and other TD leaders to Rajahmundry central jail due to unavailability of accommodation in the Gannavaram sub-jail. The court agreed to this.
Krishna district SP P. Joshua said the allegation that Pattabhiram was beaten by the police was false. The SP said inspector Kanaka Rao's family was deeply worried about the incident of TD ruckus in which he was injured. “Everyone knows that inspector Kanaka Rao belongs to the SC category but now some leaders are raising the controversy that he is a BC.” He said the police department would support the Kanaka Rao family. He said nine persons were arrested in connection with the incidents, based on the video footage.
He asked, “If there was no evil intention, why did Pattabhiram come to Gannavaram with three vehicles full of his men? After reaching Gannavaram, he gathered more people and got into an altercation with the police. So far, no complaint has been filed regarding the attack on the office of the Telugu Desam. However, the police registered a suo moto case under sections like rioting and arson.
