Dog menace in Hyderabad: Congress demands mayor\'s resignation

City Congress leaders blamed the negligent attitude of the GHMC and submitted a memorandum at the corporation\'s head office

Hyderabad: Condemning the 'insensitive' remarks by mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi after a toddler was killed after he was attacked by stray dogs in Amberpet, the Congress on Wednesday demanded her immediate resignation.

City Congress leaders blamed the negligent attitude of the GHMC and submitted a memorandum at the corporation's head office. They cautioned the officials that if the corporation fails to act tough against those who were responsible within the next two days, they will lay siege to the head office.

While protesting near the GHMC office while holding soft-toy dogs, they also
demanded an ex-gratia of Rs. 50 lakh to the toddler's parents.

Earlier during the day, a team of leaders led by PCC working president, B.
Mahesh Kumar Goud, which included Kota Neelima and Mettu Sai Kumar, lodged a complaint at the TS Human Rights Commission. They alleged that the negligent attitude of Municipal Minister K.T. Rama Rao and the mayor were tantamount to 'gross violation' of human rights by the BRS government.

"We demand stringent action against the State government, the minister,
commissioner of GHMC and the mayor and immediate directions to the state
administration to take action against the dog menace," they demanded.
Goud found fault with the way Rama Rao was handling issues of public
concern. "The minister has time to enjoy car races but no time for his
responsibilities towards Hyderabad," he said.

Meanwhile Chamala Kiran Kumar, PCC vice-president, tweeted along with CCTV
footage, "#TelanganaModel, best young Municipal Minister KTR making GHMC and Hyderabad a global city..Feeding people to dogs on streets, Mayor Gadwal
Vijayalaxmi saying poor hungry dogs struggling to survive (sic)."
