Mahadayi: Farmers plan Vidhana Soudha siege today
HUBBALLI: Scores of farmers are set to lay siege to Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Wednesday to pressurize the state government to arrive at an amicable settlement with Goa government over sharing water of the river Mahadayi, and supply drinking water to parched districts of north Karnataka.
On Tuesday, these farmers marked the 600th day of their stir by blocking traffic on Hubballi-Vijayapura road. They also opposed the presence of additional solicitor general of India, Atmaram Nadkarni, on behalf of the Goa government, at Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal, on grounds that he was the Advocate General of Goa and therefore likely to cause injustice to Karnataka.
Besides laying siege to Vidhana Soudha, the agitating farmers also plan to stage a dharna in front of BJP’s office in Bengaluru to condemn the negligence of the Union government to resolve the issue. They alleged that BJP leaders of the state had failed to exert pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and end the row between Goa and Karnataka on sharing water of the river Mahadayi.
