M Kavitha gets Mahbubabad, Pasunuri to fight for Warangal
Warangal: Putting an end to the suspense over the Mahbubabad parliamentary candidate, the Telangana Rastra Samiti on Thursday announced Ms Maloth Kavitha’s name in the list of its candidates to contest the Lok Sabha polls. Warangal MP Pasunuri Dayakar is being renominated.
Ms Kavitha, the daughter of Dornakal MLA Redya Naik, has previously represented the Mahbubabad constituency on a Congress ticket in 2009. She was defeated in the 2014 Assembly elections but defected to the TRS along with her father. She did not contest the 2018 Assembly elections after the party chose the sitting MLA Shankar Naik.
It is said that she impressed TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao with her work in the party. She worked as state general secretary and also as in-charge of Jangaon, Station Ghanpur, and Wardhannpet constituencies, during the recent Assembly elections and contributed to the party’s success.
The 39-year-old could ride on the fact that there are more female voters in the constituency. She is a native of Mahbubabad and her husband, Mr Bhadru Naik, belongs to Yellandu. With her father representing Dornakal, she can use the local tag in three of the seven Assembly constituencies.
Mr Chandrasekhar Rao was reportedly unimpressed with the fact that the TRS could only win three of the four Assembly constituencies in the last elections. Mr Naik is said to have not cooperated with the local leaders.
At one point, word was abuzz that Mr Seetaram Naik was going to join the Congress. The surveys conducted by the TRS, too, showed a decline in his following. Taking all these into consideration, he was not given the chance to contest the election this year.
MLC Ms Satyavathi Rathod was made campaign in-charge for the Parliament segment. The TRS is counting on the defection of the Yellandu and Pinapaka MLAs, which will make it stronger in the constituency.
