Etala wants Rs. 50,000 per acre compensation for crop damage
WARANGAL: BJP MLA Etala Rajendar on Wednesday demanded that state government grant Rs. 50,000 per acre to farmers who have lost their crops in the recent hailstorm and heavy rains in Telangana.
The legislator visited fields and houses damaged in various villages in his Huzurabad constituency. Speaking on the occasion, he said though other segments of people are celebrating Ugadi, farmers are downcast owing to losses they have suffered.
Rajendar recalled that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had visited Punjab and helped farmers of that state when they went through a crisis. “Now, the CM must help the farmers of his own state in sorting out their problems,” he remarked.
He said farmers had cultivated corn, mango, chilli and paddy crops over more than a thousand acres of crops in Huzurabad constituency. Farmers are morose over the issue as though a family member had died.
He regretted that help is being denied to farmers in the name of review meetings and field inspections. That will not fill the stomach of farmers, he remarked.
The BJP MLA regretted that state government is not implementing Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in Telangana. Otherwise, it would have helped in mitigating the problems that farmers are currently facing.
Rajendar said state BJP unit will send a report to central government about the crop loss in Telangana and seek help for supporting the farmers.
Asking the state government to sanction farmers Rs. 50,000 per acre of crop damaged in the interim, he warned that BJP would otherwise take up a movement against the state government along with farmers.
