Residents of Saipuri oppose new school near main road
Hyderabad: Residents of Saipuri Colony, Sainikpuri have decided to take matters into their own hands regarding the safety of the tiny tots and have begun an online petition against the setting up of a new primary school near the main road.
The petition states that due to the increase in the number of colonies, the traffic has increased tenfold in the area. There is no parking facility in the school which will lead to further traffic jams and an increased risk of accidents. “We are talking about little children crossing the road. There are vehicles zooming past outside the school gates, which is a cause for concern,” says a resident.
The new school is coming up on Plot 17 at Saipuri Colony. The online petition stated, “Several new satellite colonies have come up at the north of Sainikpuri, around Kapra Cheruvu. Because of these new colonies, traffic on Saipuri Main Road has become extremely difficult to manage.”
The petition says Saipuri Main Road is a colony road which is not designed to take the load of large commercial establishments like schools. The residents also claimed that they had requested the owner of the land to not lease out the land to the school.
Usha R.A, the district educational officers says, “We will ask all departments concerned such as the GHMC, Fire department and others if the required inspections have been conducted. We will ensure that schools are a safe space for our children.”
The petitioners have demanded quick action so that students and parents are not fleeced for the upcoming academic year.
