OOTY: Midnight special mass and special prayers marked the Easter celebrations in the hills here.
Dr A. Amalraj, Bishop of Ooty diocese presided over the traditional midnight special mass on Saturday night at the Sacred Heart Cathedral here and gave the Easter day message. In his sermon he said that people should adhere to love, affection, brotherhood and kindness to rebuild the world to make it a heaven of peace. Christians should be an example to others by adopting these noble qualities that define humanness. Christians should always be prepared to help others and care for people around, he added.
At St.Therasa's Church at Finger Post, Fr. Amalraj and Fr. Prabhu presided over the midnight special mass. At the famed Kandal Cross Shrine, a large number of visiting Christians turned up. Rector and parish priest Fr. M.B.Amirtharaj presided over the midnight vigil mass. At the service, Christian children received holy communion.
Fr.Amirtharaj explained the significance of the midnight vigil mass, the resurrection of Christ and how Christians should shape their lives to be a light for others.
