Kurnool: A tense situation prevailed in Kurnool as the CBI deployed CRPF forces near a private hospital where Kadapa MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy’s mother was undergoing treatment.
The deployment came amid rumours of his arrest that spread across the state in relation to the investigations into the Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy murder case. Followers of Avinash Reddy also reached near the hospital in full strength to resist the arrest.
Meanwhile, Avinash Reddy's attempts to secure bail from the Supreme Court were unsuccessful.
The CBI teams arrived in Kurnool city on Monday to take the Kadapa MP into custody as he repeatedly evaded summons for his appearance before the central agency. They contacted SP G. Krishnakanth, seeking official support. However, there was an unexplained delay in the process.
During this time, a large number of Avinash followers gathered at the hospital and caused a stir. The MP himself was staying on the 5th floor of the hospital and his mother was receiving treatment for a cardiac-related issue on the 4th floor.
Sources said Avinash's advocates filed a bail petition for him in the Supreme Court. But the vacation bench consisting of Justice J.K. Maheswari and Justice Narasimhan dismissed the plea, saying it was not listed for the day.
Rumors began circulating that CBI officials contacted their headquarters and requested permission to deploy CRPF contingents from Hyderabad. However, there has been a stalemate.
The Kadapa MP was scheduled to appear before the CBI at its Hyderabad office on May 22. He avoided an appearance by seeking more time to appear. While his father Bhaskar Reddy had already been arrested, his mother Srilakshmi in hospital required his presence with her, the MP said.
Upon hearing that Avinash was going to be taken into CBI custody, party legislators and activists rushed to the hospital. Some party leaders and activists were waiting at the main entrance of the hospital in the evening to resist Avinash’s arrest.
The police have set up barricades at the hospital, obstructing the movement of vehicles and people. Meanwhile, Y.S. Vijayamma visited Srilakshmi, Avinash's mother, at the private hospital and discussed her health with the doctors.
