Kerala eyes Taiwan ties on e-manufacturing
Thiruvananthapuram: The state electronics and information technology department is joining hands with India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) for setting up an international desk for investment promotion in Taiwan.
The initiative is aimed at channelising investments from Taiwan in sectors of electronics manufacturing and design as well as to help electronic manufacturing start-ups in Kerala link with Taiwanese firms. Taiwan is one of the leading regions in these sectors.
Department sources said many states have been trying to partner with IESA, a leading trade body in electronics manufacturing industry, for setting up the desk.
Already Andhra Pradesh has become the major partner state. Kerala will be one of the two associate partner states, the other not being finalised yet.
The international desk would be focusing on investments mainly in consumer electronic products like smartphone, displays, tablets and routers, industrial goods like handheld devices, LED fabrication, LED lighting and batteries and solar products like solar cells and investors.
Medical electronic devices and automotive electronic products are the other areas of possible investments, said a government order on the association with IESA, which would be managing the desk in Taipei.
It would connect the Taiwanese investors and firms with the partnering states and ensure brand buildup and focused attention to the states.
