P Sai Teja climbs volcanic peak in Indonesia
GUNTUR: A native of Guntur district is the first Indian to climb a volcanic mountain in Indonesia. Narasaraopeta MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao felicitated P. Sai Teja of Sekuru village in Tenali mandal at Guntur on Wednesday for climbing Mount Dukono in Indonesia and praised Teja of being the pride of India to the world.
Mr Teja said Dukono is an active volcano located in Halmahera island of Indonesia. He said that his family members first did not allow him to climb Mount Dukono, but later they agreed. Hence, he started the journey to climb Mount Dukono. Mr Teja said that they had to travel through forest to reach Mount Dukono without proper way and it took him two days to reach the summit. He said that still lava was erupting from Mount Dukono and his first attempt to climb it with the help of locals was foiled due to eruption of lava. He said that they had to walk on the lava ashes which was dangerous due to presence of high temperature. Hence, he used modern thermal camera to know the lowest temperature in the ash to walk on the mountain and climbed Dukono on April 6. He said that he hoisted the Indian flag on mountain Dukono.
Mr Teja showed photos and videos taken by him on Mount Dukono and said that he is planning to climb volcanic mountains situated in the islands of Pacific Ocean. Mr Sambasiva Rao praising the efforts of Teja and stated the he will remain in the history as the first Telugu person from AP to climb the volcanic mountain.
