Hyderabad: Cops to face heat for not filing FIRs

On Friday the court was angry with the SP for his inaction on its direction to take action against the police officers.

Hyderabad: Expressing dissatisfaction over state police rejecting complaints sent by citizens through registered post, the Telangana High Court directed higher officials of the department to take action against those personnel who refused to take complaints through hand or post.

Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy was dealing with a petition by Mr K. Laxmipathi Raju, a resident of Manuguru in Kothagudem district, alleging that the local deputy superintendent of police and station house officer were not registering his complaint regarding a land issue.

He said the authorities had rejected his complaint sent through registered post.

After going through the material which contained the endorsement ‘refused to receive’ by the police officers, Justice Rajasheker Reddy observed that it was very unfortunate that public officers given great responsibility, were refusing complaints or papers sent through registered post submitted by citizens.

The court had earlier directed the SP to register an FIR based on the complaint of the petitioner against the private persons who trespassed into his land, directed him to take action against the DSP and SHO of Manuguru and asked him to submit a compliance report.

On Friday the court was angry with the SP for his inaction on its direction to take action against the police officers. Counsel for the home department Mallareddy Gadipally submitted that an FIR was filed against private persons and he was not aware of action taken against the police officers.

The High Court warned the district police of Kothagudem that it would direct the initiation of disciplinary action against higher officials, if it does not get a compliance report by 25 June on action taken against the DSP and SHO of Manuguru.
