Vizag top cop warns rowdy sheeters
VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam commissioner of police C.M. Trivikram Varma on Wednesday warned rowdy sheeters of the port city that police will take stern action against them if they get involved in anti-social activities.
The commissioner himself counselled 283 rowdy sheeters at Police Barracks Grounds on Wednesday. Speaking later to media, he disclosed that they have graded rowdies as per their activities. A close watch is being kept round the clock on those who repeat their offenses.
Trivikram Varma told the rowdies that police will not hesitate to book them under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act and banish them from the city. “We will also request courts to cancel the bail of seasoned rowdies involved in serious offenses,” the commissioner remarked.
He said the government is ready to help rowdy sheeters if they gave up their antisocial activities and took up decent living. Answering questions, Trivikram Varma denied that city rowdies were involved in ganja smuggling and real estate business. He, however, said those involved in these two activities will be dealt with separately.
Asked about the recent kidnapping of MP’s family members for money, Trivikram Varma said they have arrested seven persons including the main accused, who held the MP’s family members for ransom. Police are likely to arrest some more people, he stated.
The commissioner said an inquiry has been launched against circle inspector of Bheemili, who failed to inform superiors when the MP’s son called him up and said rowdy sheeter Hemant would not be coming to the police station to sign for three days, as he (the MP’s son) had entrusted him with some job.
When reminded about drunken brawls and killings during closing hours of bars and wine shops, the commissioner said notices have been issued to managements of both bars and shops.
