Kochi: IHRD allotment from July 22-24

The director said that the respective colleges have been given directions to publish details regarding spot admission on their websites.

Kochi: With a controversy raging over spot admission to government supported self-finacing colleges, the IHRD director P Suresh Kumar said on Sunday that the students can attend for spot allotment from July 22 till July 24 at the Model Engineering College, Ernakulam, which is a sought after college and the spot admission will be made on July 25 based on the ranklist prepared after July 24.

“The only other engineering college having high demand under IHRD is at Chengannur and students can apply for spot allotment on July 22 and July 23 and the spot admission will be made only on July 24 based on the ranklist prepared after July 23,” Suresh Kumar told DC on Sunday. The director said that the respective colleges have been given directions to publish details regarding spot admission on their websites.

“The colleges under IHRD and LBS Centre for Science and Technology (LBSCST) won’t demand the students to submit certificates on the day of application itself and will give time to them. Students and parents may vist the website of the colleges or call the colleges for details on spot admission,” said Suresh Kumar who is also having temporary charge of LBSCST.

He and CAPE director R Sasikumar said that the IHRD, LBSCST and CAPE decided to start spot admission on July 22 as the private engineering colleges also were allowed to start spot admission from that day itself. “If we didn’t start on that day, then our seats will remain vacant. Among CAPE colleges, the Thalassery and Perumon are much in demand and I would look into what CAPE can do to facilitate spot application for two-three days and do spot admission after that. A decision could be taken on Monday,” said Sasikumar.

He said that there was a time when the CEE himself had condcuted spot allotment even for private engineering colleges and those famiar with the proceedings know why that system was changed. “In this race we don’t want to lose,” he said.

Meanwhile in a major la-pse on her part, the Commissioner of Entrance Exams has failed to announce the spot admission in government supported self-financing colleges on the CEE's website which she is duty bound to do.
