Grand investiture ceremony marks centenary fete of Begumpet HPS
Hyderabad: Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari hit the right chords when he said that the essence of education was not in collecting degrees and adding to one’s qualifications but to help in the development of character, expansion of intellect and developing a positive outlook towards life. This spirit will be in tune with the adage ‘we must become the change that we wish to see’.
He was addressing a large gathering on the occasion of the investiture ceremony marking the centenary celebrations of The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet.
Speaking about the premier institution, he said that the school had a rich sports history. Recalling the 1970s, he pointed out that when it came to sports, the competitors in the fray were not as keen on winning the championships or medals as they were in beating HPS teams.
Lord Karan Bilimoria of Chelsea said “Who would’ve thought when it was founded a century back that HPS would be producing global leaders and world conquerors. When I was with Satya Nadella in London some months back, the first thing we spoke about was Hyderabad Public School. HPS is going places as is Hyderabad.”
Dr. Skand Bali, principal of school announced the achievements of the young eagles followed by the duties and responsibilities of the prefectorial board of 2023-24 that was just constituted.
“With getting the head boy post comes the great responsibility to carry the school’s name and lead the prefectorial board. It is an honour to lead the school at its centenary year. They say leaders are born but I say leaders are made in HPS,” said Amaan Ali Khan, the school’s head boy.
“It’s a dream come true. To have my name engraved on the walls of Shaheen is quite overwhelming but amidst it all I find solace,” said Anuya Perwala, the head girl.
Earlier, Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari unfurled the school flag, while the school song was sung by 38 students.
Akarshana Sathish of class 7 took delight in telling that as part of her library project, she could collect more than 5800 books. This will help create multiple libraries in the city.
Meanwhile, HPS announced the launch of ‘LEADER’, which will be a leadership program for students from classes 1 to 12. It was formally launched by Lord Bilimoria.
