Assault on tribal woman: Telangana HC orders inquiry report
Hyderabad: A division bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice T. Vinod Kumar, on Tuesday issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (home), DGP, Rachakonda police commissioner, LB Nagar ACP, and LB Nagar SHO, directing them to submit their contentions on the alleged incident of brutal attack on the Lambada woman in the LB Nagar Police Station.
The bench also directed police to furnish the CCTV footage of the place where the tribal woman V. Lakshmi was whisked away on August 15 by the LB Nagar police and the place where she was beaten up.
Further, the court also directed the LB Nagar Police to inquire into the issue and file an inquiry report to the court within two weeks.
The division bench was adjudicating the suo motu PIL by converting the Letter of Justice Surepally Nanda into a PIL.
Justice Nanda wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court duly annexing a newspaper item, which highlighted the LB Nagar Police brutality over the hapless tribal women, who was beaten up mercilessly subjecting her to third degree method and during this assault the tribal woman lost her belongings and cash. The judge in her letter sought a probe into the entire incident, sought action on the police personnel, who resorted to such an inhuman act, register cases against them under the provisions of STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and a further direction to the police to ensure that the tribal woman’s cash and belongings returned to her.
