Kochi: 2 medical colleges get notice for list mess-up

Kerala HC has issued notices to two self- financing medical colleges on a plea alleging disparity in the final rank list.

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has issued notices to two self- financing medical colleges on a plea alleging disparity in the final rank list prepared by them. Two students moved the court against Al-Azar Medical College, Thodupuzha, and Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences, Chalakka, Ernakulam. The petitioners, Sethulakshmi N. Pearson and Ankita, had got overall rank of 31,379 and 35,611 in the all- India NEET rank list. They argued that they had given applications to the Al-Azar Medical College, but it published the final rank list, wherein the petitioners have been given serial numbers 57 and 302 showing that the applications were incomplete or defective.

The situation was same with the Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences. The petitioners argued that the rank secured by the persons shown against serial numbers 1 to 4 are 25,501, 27, 283, 29, 965 and 34, 251 respectively. They said they should have been placed in the top four. “Considering the nature of contentions raised, this court is , prima facie, of the view that proper instruction had to be obtained from the institution concerned,” a division bench comprising Justice P.R. Ramachandra Menon and Justice Dama Seshadri Naidu observed. The court posted the case to Friday for detailed hearing. Deccan Chronicle in these columns had reported the anomalies in the admission process and in the preparation of the final admission list.
