Hyderabad floods: Netizens mock administration over failing infrastructure
Hyderabad: As overnight rain wrecked havoc in some parts of the city, netizens made extensive use of social media and instant messaging services to keep friends and relatives posted on developments and to comment on the state of services. The online space was also full of jokes and complaints about how the city’s infrastructure was failing.
An anonymous Twitter user used the opportunity to highlight the seriousness of nala encroachments. “If your houses are built on our lakes then lakes (referring to water) will come into your houses (sic),” he posted.
Mr Prakash Arcot wrote on Facebook that the mess could not be blamed on rain. “It is the collective failure of civic administration and the minister,” he said. Mr Savanth S.K wanted contractors held responsible for the bad roads that has affected traffic movement. Mr Vamshi Muthyapu questioned the GHMC: “Why are you people living on tax payer’s money can’t do anything for them.”
Mr Kalyan. J from Hyderabad Intellectuals Forum said, “People should revolt and refuse to pay taxes until we get basic amenities” The picture of the sinkhole on NTR Marg was widely circulated with an advice to roadusers to avoid that stretch.
