Guntur: Stray dogs kill 4-year-old boy

The boy screamed for help and his mother Malleswari tried to come to his rescue.

Guntur: A four-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Guntur on Thursday.

Prem Kumar, studying in LKG in the Guntur Municipal Corporation run school at Adavitakkellapadu, was playing in an open place near his house in Rajiv Gruha Kalpa Colony when four dogs rushed at him and started biting him on his neck, chest, hands, legs and face.

The boy screamed for help and his mother Malleswari tried to come to his rescue.

Locals tried to beat back the dogs and finally succeeded. By then the child was bleeding and so badly injured he did not respond when they tried to revive him. He was rushed to the emergency ward of the Government General Hospital, Guntur, where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.

The local community is shocked and angry at this needless death.

Many people said that stray dogs have become a big menace and it was dangerous to walk on the streets, and the administration was doing nothing about it. They pointed out that there had been several incidents of dogs biting people but officials made no attempt to curb the danger.

A team led by deputy municipal commissioner D. Srinivasa Rao and public health officer Dr Sobha Rani put in an appearance and made inquiries, but no one expects anything to change until municipal officials are dragged to court and made to pay huge damages for their neglect and callousness.
