Huzurnagar Assembly bypoll to see a triangular fight
Hyderabad: The bypoll to be held in Huzurnagar on October 21 will see an interesting fight between the Congress, which holds the seat, and the TRS.
According to the Election Commission’s schedule for the Huzurnagar Assembly bypoll announ-ced on Saturday, the filing of nominations will start from September 23 and polling will be held on October 21. Counting is slated for October 24.
Within hours of the announcement of the election schedule for Huzurnagar bypolls, Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced Sanampudi Saidi Reddy as the TRS’ candidate. Mr Saidi Reddy is testing his fate again after unsuccessfully contesting against Congress candidate N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, the TPCC president, from this seat in the 2018 Assembly elections.
The Congress is most likely to field former MLA N. Padmavathi, the wife of Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy. The BJP is trying to field Komatireddy Lakshmi Reddy, the wife of Cong-ress MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, according to sources in the BJP.
The Huzurnagar Assembly segment is a strong bastion of the Congress but the ruling TRS wants to wrest this seat.
In fact, the BJP had no strong leader or cadre here but things have picked up after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Thus there will be a triangular fight between the Congress, TRS and the BJP. But the main fight will be between the Congress and TRS.
The BJP is searching for a strong candidate becau-se it cannot win on its own, however, it may decide the fate of the Congress and the TRS.
In the 2018 Assembly elections, the Congress’ Uttam Kumar Reddy won with a 7,442 vote majority over the TRS’ Saidi Reddy. The Congress has been winning here at a trot in the last three elections. The BJP got only 1552 votes in this seat.
Except Huzurnagar, the remaining six segments in the Nalgonda Lok Sabha constituency were won by the TRS in 2018. Five months later, the Congress won the MP seat in 2019.
