No progress in ayah murder probe
KOTTAYAM: The police have not made much progress in the probe into the murder of Rajaguru, 42, a pre-school ayah, whose body was found inside a creche of the Gundumala estates of Kanan Devan Hills plantation in Benmore division near Munnar on February 14.
The police had found contradictions in the statements of her 18-year-old son and sought the permission of the Devikulam first class judicial magistrate court to conduct a lie detection test on him. Moreover, nine sovereigns of gold were found missing from her home prompting the police to suspect theft as the motive.
The police are trying to cover up the lapses in the probe, said sources from Munnar. They had brought a sniffer dog to the spot of the crime one day late. Initially, the probe team suspected the role of outside workers and ignored other possibilities, it is alleged.
Gundumala estate is situated some 26 km from Munnar town. A person who commits the crime cannot escape from there immediately.
Ernakulam range IG P. Vijayan who is supervising the investigation told DC that the police had not received any leads in the case. Investigating officer, Munnar CI
A. Sam Paul, told DC that the police had found no evidence other than the contradiction in the statements of the victim's son. A team of officials has camped at the place and conducted investigations, including questioning a number of persons.
